The sixth annual Conference on the Democratic Transition, scheduled for mid-September, 2017, will be devoted to the theme of youth. By focusing on Arab youth, the organizers of the meeting aim to probe one of the most pivotal societal sectors, a significant factor contributing to the present-day Arab social crisis, and the clearest evidence of the inability to achieve the Arab democratic transition.
This latest meeting is part of a long series of events which the ACRPS has held to advance academic scholarship on questions of democracy. Participants at the annual meetings come from across all of the disciplines of the social sciences and humanities.
The Organizing Committee welcomes submissions from all scholars interested in taking part in our meeting. For more information, please see the Background Paper (presently only available in Arabic).
· The Organizing Committee will research proposals of between 800 and 1,000 words, together with the author’s CV, up to and until March 31, 2017. The abstracts should indicate: the research problematic and the questions to be tackled; (expected) research conclusions; the overall structure of the paper; and a complete bibliography as an appendix.
· In addition to the above: Abstracts involving field studies should include: an introduction; the research problematic to be addressed; the aims of the field work; the significance of the proposed study; a survey of previously completed work. Additionally, the authors of proposed field work studies must specify the limits of the fieldwork and a glossary of any specific terms, alongside any methodological notes for the field study.
· For accepted proposals, the Organizing Committee will accept abstracts in both Arabic and English, of between 400 and 500 words in length each. A complete draft of between 6,000 and 8,000 words must be submitted by 15 June, 2017. The complete drafts are subject to a refereeing process. Acceptance of the research proposal does not necessarily indicate that the author will be invited to take part in the conference. Authors whose papers have been accepted for the conference will be notified within one month of the receipt of their complete drafts. All submissions must be consistent with the ACRPS’ Submission Guidelines.
